Living With Purpose Interview – Colin Hiles aka ‘The Midlife Maverick’
7My special guest for today’s ‘Living With Purpose’ interview is Colin Hiles, aka The Midlife Maverick’. Prepare to be inspired by his story!
Someone once said’ “It turns out that happiness is about sacrifice. You have to sacrifice what isn’t important for what is.”
Colin is a shining example of someone who has taken courageous steps to overcome fear, make difficult decisions and risk everything in honour of living with purpose. In this interview he generously shares his experience, insight and wisdom for what it takes to recognise and answer your own calling.
Here is what you will learn:
-
How Colin went from being a health product salesman with low self-esteem to being the co-creator of a multi-million pound personal development business.
-
What a year on a small spanish island with no technology and more goats than people taught him about real success and fulfilment.
-
What a film starring Clint Eastwood has to do with finding your purpose (can you guess which one it is?)
-
What you should definitely have printed on your next business card.
-
How Colin has turned his experiences into a six step process that has helped thousands of people to live a life they feel great about (and raised bucket loads of cash for charitable causes along the way)

Great interview-I could totally relate to what Colin was saying and great to see such open authenticity. We all fear failure or success at some point don’t we and its only when we have other role models to aspire to that we can begin to find the courage to follow our hearts. I work with energy principles and assist people with finding purposeful work so I can see the true value in Colin’s work.
I used to worry what people thought though I realised there is no energy in this place, it just drains you whereas when you live your truth there is nothing to stop you from being unstoppable. Living life from your soul level is definitely about feeling your way first then using your rational mind and certainly not conventional wisdom. I am sure though, that this approach will soon become the norm!
Thank you Kath. Couldn’t agree more! Our souls already know what is truly right for us and our job is to learn to listen and trust. When we come from a place of authenticity we tend to fear less and see things as they really are, which in itself has an energising quality to it. I think you’re right, it’s catching on!!
Thanks for the feedback Kath. I do hope the ‘Feel more, think less’ approach to life becomes better understood. It would mean we would make better decisions leading to a fuller and more meaningful existence. cx
By listening to you it seems to me that you are saying that you have to risk/ live today and tomorrow will take care of its self?? Or is that a bit too simple?
Hi Zoran. Thank you for commenting. My view is that there is no one way to discover and live a purposeful life. It doesn’t always mean taking big risks, but it often does require courage at some point. For Colin, it just so happened that it was through taking a big risk (born out of frustration with his current experience) that he realised what was really important for him. Others are equally able to live their purposeful life through simple reflection and prioritisation of values. However we get there, though, I believe the common element is that we get to know who we really are at the most authentic level, and use that awareness to inform how we live our lives. In my experience living a life of purpose is a constant work in progress.
Colin and Paul,
I really enjoyed the interview. great story about what you can do when you follow your smile and heart… I am starting to learn how to jump in stead of fighting my way out… Gracias! H
